Stewart has built an impressive career in the fire service, demonstrating unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of the County of Newell communities. Initially starting as a Sheet Metal and HVAC technician, Stewart’s passion for firefighting led him to join the Brooks Volunteer Fire Department in 2001 after being recruited by Fire Chief Kevin Swanson.
His career progressed rapidly; he became an officer in 2003 and was appointed deputy fire chief in 2011. In 2019, Stewart took on the role of Rural Fire and Emergency Services Coordinator, overseeing nine rural fire departments and significantly enhancing fire safety measures and emergency response capabilities across the region.
In 2021, he was appointed Regional Fire Chief for the County of Newell, where he works with and mentors the 9 rural fire departments as well as directs Emergency Management, serves as a fire investigator, and acts as a Safety Codes officer. As one of only three fire service instructors in the County, Stewart is passionate about mentoring the next generation of firefighters. His vision and leadership continue to make a significant impact on community safety, and he is committed to advancing fire safety initiatives for years to come.
