Wildfires have become increasingly complex in recent years due to climate change, increased development in the wildland-urban interface, and a lack of capacity for both wildland and structural fire agencies.
FireSmart is about living with and managing the risk of wildfire. Every community in Alberta faces unique wildfire risks and has unique opportunities to address those risks. The FireSmart System recognizes that all community members (e.g., local/provincial government, industry, critical infrastructure managers, Indigenous rights holders, community groups, residents, etc.) have a critical role to play in creating wildfire resilient communities. Join us for an interactive workshop and conversation on the FireSmart Alberta Community Wildfire Risk Management Cycle and access a variety of free FireSmart tools, how-to resources, and training programs. Provide us with feedback on FireSmart initiatives underway in Alberta to support communities with implementing the FireSmart system in a balanced and holistic way. Join the conversation about what your community needs to strengthen wildfire resilience – one step at a time.
